Considering The Benefits of Microdermabrasion

by Mary Bentley

One of the most popular skin care treatments of the day is a procedure known as microdermabrasion. Often described as a facial sandblasting or facial vacuuming these two descriptions allude to the two processes used in the treatment, or rather the two functions of the microdermabrasion machine. Firstly and primarily the machine creates a circular air flow that forces aluminum oxide crystals to be blasted upon the skin's surface and then such up all the residue. The result is the removal of the very top layer of skin which consists mainly of dead and dying skin cells.

The professional non-invasive cosmetic procedure known as microdermabrasion is an entirely safe treatment if performed by a suitably trained person. The process is so simple that it can now be performed, at home, using cheap equipment (around $200), by almost anybody but, of course, the best results are always going to be gained in the cosmetic clinic, beauty salon or spa.

One of the most immediate benefits that you will notice is the increased tightness of the skin and the fresh look and feel of it. Immediately following a session the skin can sometimes appear slightly red but this quickly settles to a healthy glow. Your skin will also have a nice sheen and far fewer open pores giving an incredibly youthful appearance which can improve of a course of treatments.

Microdermabrasion is known to be extremely effective against acne. One of the main symptoms of the skin that is associated with acne is the formation of what are called 'comedones'. A comedo is found in both blackheads and whiteheads as it is the pug which blocks the opening of the pore. Microdermabrasion can blast away these comedones and deep clean the skin to such a degree that the risk of a fresh outbreak of acne in that area is vastly reduced.

The use of microdermabrasion in the battle against acne is increasing and the importance of this can not be understated. Unless you have suffered from a bad case of acne it will be impossible for you to understand how devastating this problem can be. Acne can be extremely painful but, most probably, the most painful part is the way in which others react when they see it. Nearly all reactions are adverse and sufferers can become severely depressed which complicates things still further.

There are many acne treatments available and, unfortunately, not all treatments work on all people. Microdermabrasion appears to work extremely well on virtually everyone who suffers from acne and it is, therefore becoming extremely popular as both a cure and a highly effective preventative treatment.

Microdermabrasion has also been clinically proven to vastly reduce the visibility of acne scars and, in some cases, it has even managed to removed mild acne scars completely. However the treatment is most well known for the incredible way in which it can remove fine lines, spider lines and fine wrinkles. Although the effects vary depending on the skin treated most people notice a clear improvement after only a few sessions. After about 10 sessions virtually everyone can see an incredible improvement that can then be maintained by regular "top up" treatments.

The truth is that microdermabrasion has a great many benefits, so many in fact, that virtually anybody would benefit after only a few appointments at their local medical spa or clinic. Because it is so popular the cost of the treatment has restocked slightly in recent years, especially in areas of increased competition and now more than ever it is within the range of almost all budgets. If you have considered it too expensive in the past maybe it is time to take another look?
